Our Programs:
MCYO Academy Orchestra — New this season!
Primarily intended for middle school students, the Academy Orchestra provides a foundation in the requisite skills for participation in orchestra. Through the process of rehearsal and performance, students in this ensemble develop essential instrumental technique and ensemble skills. The Academy Orchestra surveys an eclectic selection of beginning and intermediate orchestral works, and is directed by MCYO's Associate Conductor, Melanie Parobek.
MCYO Concert Orchestra
MCYO's flagship ensemble for high school students, the Concert Orchestra was founded in 2007 and has performed to enthusiastic audiences at many major venues throughout Nashville. Students in the Concert Orchestra study and perform advanced works from the classical repertoire, jazz and rock standards, as well as traditional music from around the world. The Concert Orchestra is directed by MCYO's Artistic Director, Walter Bitner.
MCYO Chamber Ensembles
Open to grades 5 through 12, students wishing to be invovled in chamber ensembles will be placed in a group based on skill level: trio, quartet, quintet, etc. Like the Concert and Academy Orchestras, the Chamber Ensembles will also learn and perform a variety of styles of music from well-known classics to jazz and rock. Chamber ensemble students will learn about communicating well with a smaller ensemble and will gain sight-reading, improvisational, and leadership skills that will in turn foster their confidence as a musician. They will also learn the skill of playing "gigs" for private events and weddings. The chamber groups are organized and facilitated by MCYO's Associate Conductor, Melanie Parobek.
