GET INVOLVED

Music City Youth Orchestra

Our programs provide dynamic orchestra and chamber music experiences for students in grades 5 through 12. All students who have not yet graduated from high school and who play violin, viola, cello, or bass are encouraged to audition.

Our Programs:

    MCYO Concert Orchestra

MCYO's flagship ensemble for high school students, the Concert Orchestra was founded in 2007 and has performed to enthusiastic audiences at many major venues throughout Nashville. Students in the Concert Orchestra study and perform advanced works from the classical repertoire, jazz and rock standards, as well as traditional music from around the world. The Concert Orchestra is directed by MCYO's Artistic Director, Stefan Petrescu.

    MCYO Chamber Ensembles

Open to grades 5 through 12, this semester-long program is available to students wishing to be involved in chamber ensembles. Students will be placed in a group based on skill level: trio, quartet, quintet, etc. Like the Concert Orchestra, the Chamber Ensembles will also learn and perform a variety of styles of music from well-known classics to jazz and rock. Chamber ensemble students will learn about communicating well with a smaller ensemble and will gain sight-reading, improvisational, and leadership skills that will in turn foster their confidence as a musician. They will also learn the skill of playing "gigs" for private events and weddings. The chamber groups are organized and facilitated by MCYO's Chamber Ensemble Coordinator, Melanie Parobek.
