Get Involved

Our programs provide dynamic orchestra and chamber music experiences for students in grades 5 through 12. All students who have not yet graduated from high school and who play violin, viola, cello, or bass are encouraged to audition.

Members of all MCYO ensembles will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, attend all performances, and give notification in advance for all absences. They will also be expected to practice adequately to be able to contribute to the group's mastery of the material under study. It is highly recommended that each student undertake a course of study on his or her instrument with a private teacher.

Our Programs

MCYO Concert Orchestra

MCYO's flagship ensemble for advanced level string students, the Concert Orchestra was founded in 2007 and has performed to enthusiastic audiences at many major venues throughout Nashville. Students in the Concert Orchestra study and perform advanced works from the classical repertoire, jazz and rock standards, as well as traditional music from around the world. The Concert Orchestra is directed by Music Director, Allison Cowan.

MCYO Chamber Ensembles

Each student will get to experience being part of a Chamber Ensemble within regular rehearsal times. They will be placed in a group based on skill level: trio, quartet, quintet, etc. Like the Concert Orchestra, the Chamber Ensembles will also learn and perform a variety of styles of music from well-known classics to jazz and rock. Chamber ensemble students will learn about communicating well with a smaller ensemble and will gain sight-reading, improvisational, and leadership skills that will in turn foster their confidence as a musician. They will also learn the skill of playing "gigs" for private events and weddings.
