Allison Cowan, Music Director

Allison Cowan has been teaching and conducting orchestral music for 17 years, in both the private setting and public school system. Mrs. Cowan founded the Ravenwood High School Orchestra Program and the Centennial High School Orchestra Program in Williamson County in 2012. In 2013, she founded the Woodland Middle School Orchestra Program and became the chairperson of the 9-10 MidState Orchestra for MTSBOA .  In 2014, Mrs. Cowan created the Centennial High School Guitar Program which has grown to be one of the largest guitar programs in the state. She served as the Orchestra Representative on the Executive Committee of MTSBOA from 2015 to 2017. Currently, she is the Director of Orchestras for Centennial High School and the department head for Fine Arts at Centennial. She is a member of the Tennessee Music Education Association,

Tracy Silverman, Artist-in-Residence

Lauded by the BBC as “the greatest living exponent of the electric violin”, Tracy Silverman has redefined the instrument with his instantly recognizable trademark sound. His groundbreaking work with the six-string electric violin has forever transformed violin playing, much as Hendrix redefined the electric guitar. A Juilliard graduate, Tracy performed the premier of John Adams’ electric violin concerto ‘The Dharma at Big Sur’ at the gala opening of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. The piece was written for Silverman and he recorded it in 2004 for Nonesuch Records with John Adams conducting the BBC Symphony.

Scott Revo joins MCYO as Executive Director after a deep and rich career of 30 years in the music industry as a Music Publishing, Marketing, Events, and Project Management professional. With a career that started in choral music distribution, progressed into music publishing, and underscored with the planning and management of many music events, Scott’s journey has taken him to 37 countries and throughout the United States to play Trombone, sing with choirs, and produce concert events in the most prestigious halls and cathedrals around the world.

Walter Bitner, Founder and Conductor Emeritus

Veteran music educator Walter Bitner brought a multi-faceted background as a teacher and performer to his role as founder of MCYO Concert Orchestra - Nashville's eclectic youth orchestra. A multi-instrumentalist and singer, he is also a master teacher, composer, and conductor conversant with a wide variety of musical styles and traditions. Walter is the Director of Education & Community Engagement at the Nashville Symphony.
